Call it the tale of two ties.
Calgary Christian Secondary School band teacher Rick Vanderwoude was spotted wearing a beautiful tie during the Palliser board’s recent visit to the school. The tie features symbols for the music and faith components of his school.
Turns out there is a second tie that also signifies the relationship Vanderwoude maintains with Immanuel Christian School in Lethbridge, where he once taught. The original tie featuring the cross and the treble clef also features the initials ICS, for the Lethbridge school. The second tie doesn’t have the school’s initials.
The connection between the schools goes deeper than neckwear.
On May 8-9, the Immanuel Christian high school band visited Calgary Christian Secondary and rehearsed and performed together. The evening concert was a fundraiser for the food pantry at a Calgary church that provides groceries for low-income families. The night raised $425 and a table full of food donations.
The Calgary Christian high school band will make the trip to Lethbridge to perform once again with Immanuel Christian’s musicians at their year-end music concert June 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Trinity United Reformed Church.
