Palliser School Division announces the retirement of Superintendent Dave Driscoll, effective July 31, 2025. With a career spanning 35 years, Dave has dedicated his life to fostering the best possible learning environments for students, leaving an indelible mark on education in Southern Alberta.
Growing up in Fort Macleod, Dave pursued his education and physical education studies at the University of Calgary, followed by a Master’s Degree from Gonzaga University. He began his teaching career as a substitute teacher with the Lethbridge School Division before taking a full-time position with Horizon School Division. Early in his career, he embraced a simple yet profound guiding principle: “What is best for the students?” This question became the cornerstone of his leadership philosophy.
A passionate advocate for inclusion, Dave has worked tirelessly to ensure every student feels valued and supported. His vision is rooted in the belief that every adult member of a school community—from administrators to support staff to teachers—has the potential to be a trusted adult for students. He has championed the importance of meaningful connections and creating environments where students feel safe and empowered to thrive.
Respecting the cultural context of every school and division he has worked for was another pillar of his philosophy. Dave’s direction has consistently centred on understanding and celebrating the unique characteristics of each school community.
Dave expresses his gratitude to the mentors he has worked with and the future leaders he has mentored. “I have always believed that you work with someone, not for them; we can only accomplish big things as a team,” he shared. This belief has guided Dave throughout his career.
From curriculum development and financial management to government relations, international partnerships, and facilities management, Dave’s tenure has been marked by decisiveness, foresight, and genuine care for people.
Palliser School Board Chair Lorelei Bexte reflects fondly on her time working with Dave. “On behalf of our Board of Trustees, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to Dave for his inspiring leadership and dedication to our division. Over the past eight years, Dave navigated unique challenges while achieving extraordinary results. Due to his leadership, our division is a better place for our students, staff, and school families. His ability to inspire and lead with passion will have a profound impact on our division for years to come. The board is so happy for Dave and his family as he moves into his next chapter, but he will be missed.”
The Board of Trustees is now preparing to search for a new superintendent and extends its heartfelt thanks to Dave for his commitment and dedication to the division.
