From June 5-7 Menno Simons Christian School was bustling with the activity of a school wrapping up another year. This time it wasn't just studying for exams or preparing for field trips. Fifty students in Grades 6-9 worked with a dedicated team of teachers to produce the lively musical, "Willy Wonka Jr."
The cast and crew were cheered on by hundreds of enthusiastic audience members who enjoyed the story based on Roald Dahl's book, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." They looked for golden tickets, explored Willy Wonka's factory and had their character flaws exposed.
Alianna Grasmeyer starred as Willy Wonka, Hannah Braun as Charlie Bucket and Elias Grasmeyer as Grandpa Joe. They were backed up with a fantastic and dedicated cast. After months of noon-hour and after-school practices, they celebrated closing night with their best performance of the run. Audiences demonstrated their appreciation nightly. Palliser Regional Schools Associate Superintendent (Human Resources) Ken Garinger tweeted, "This was such a fun, talent filled evening! Glad I was here!"
The cast was supported by a student crew that worked with teachers and parents to create a stunning set and props that added so much flavour and character to the performances.
Directors Dayle Vienneau, Melissa Dyck, Judy Epp and Karen Braun were tirelessly supported by staff members Byron Thiessen, Theo Wiebe, Sandy Karg, Deista McMillan, as well as many wonderful parents.
Congratulations to all involved at Menno Simons Christian School.
