Palliser Regional Schools extends condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Jennie Emery, for whom the elementary school in Coaldale was named. She has died at age 102.
According to the program from the school’s official opening in June 1994, Mrs. Emery devoted 41 years to teaching elementary school students, starting in 1935 at Todd Creek, near Burmis. She moved to Coaldale, where she started teaching in Coaldale Consolidated School, moving to R.I. Baker School and then completing her career in John Davidson School. She spent many years teaching Grade 1.
The school was named for her out of respect for her dedication to providing the best educational opportunities for children.
For many years, Mrs. Emery was a frequent guest at the school as she continued to encourage legions of young learners. For her 100th birthday, students from Jennie Emery Elementary travelled to the care home where she lived and performed songs for her and other residents.
