Palliser School Division is delighted to announce Shakeela Akhtar’s appointment as Vice-Principal at CIS Omar Bin Al-Khattab Camps, commencing August 26, 2024.
Shakeela's academic journey is a testament to her dedication to continuing education. With a Bachelor's in Science (Biology), Bachelor's in Education (B.Ed.), and Master's in Science (Zoology) from Pakistan, she furthered her studies with a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Research and an M.Ed. (School Leadership), and the Alberta Leadership Quality Standard Coursework Program from the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary.
With 20 years of experience in education, Akhtar has facilitated K-12 students and served as an elementary school leader in Calgary for three years. Her roles as a Science, Math, and Biology teacher have honed her ability to foster inclusive and enriching learning environments, thus bringing a strong commitment CIS Omar Bin Al-Khattab Campus.
Shakeela's leadership style is rooted in her vision for the school's success. She is dedicated to learning, and helping teachers and students reach their fullest potential through continued academic and social-emotional learning opportunities and parental support. She values and appreciates the unstinted support and cooperation extended by the parents, recognizing their role in the school's achievements. Shakeela is open to suggestions from all stakeholders and is committed to striving hard to accomplish the school's cherished goals, transcending all obstacles and mediocrity. Her visibility in the hallways and classrooms throughout the school day is a testament to her hands-on approach to leadership.

Shakeela is the mother of two incredible kids and a blessed wife of a very supportive husband. Her personal interests include: cooking, spending time with her family, enriching her academic knowledge, and mentoring new immigrant educators to reach their career goals. These personal aspects of Shakeela's life make her a relatable and approachable figure in the school community.
