The Palliser School Division is pleased to announce that Aasima Asrar has accepted the role of Principal at Horizon Leadership Academy, commencing August 26, 2024.
A dedicated and passionate leader, with strong interpersonal communication skills, Aasima joined the Palliser School Division in August 2017 and has been working with students, staff, and families at Calgary Islamic School-Omar Bin Al-Khattab Campus ever since. As a strong advocate of ‘leading by example’, Aasima works tirelessly to ensure students strive to continuously improve academically, emotionally, and socially.
Aasima received a Bachelor of Arts in 1999 in Lahore, Pakistan, and later obtained a Master of Arts (Education) in 2002. In 2017-2018, Aasima was nominated for the Alberta School Boards Association Edwin Parr Award.
Reflecting on her teaching philosophy, Aasima notes, “I am very excited to be at Horizon Leadership Academy and look forward to working with an amazing and dedicated team of educational professionals. Being a Canadian Muslim is a strength that I feel proud of. I believe in creating an environment where students are empowered to become confident independent thinkers, leaders, and lifelong learners”. With a firm belief that every student can thrive given the right opportunities and environment, Aasima is eager to make a significant impact on the students, staff, families, and the entire HLA community. By promoting professional growth, teamwork, and cooperation, Aasima is poised to establish a robust academic program that cultivates a supportive and inclusive school culture, inspiring all members of the HLA community to achieve their highest potential.
Married with three children, Aasima and her family enjoy spending time outdoors, camping and hiking. Aasima is a lifelong learner and loves reading and cooking in her spare time.
