Palliser Regional Schools will offer Level 1 Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) training in Lethbridge April 23-24.
Led by Associate Superintendent (Education Services) Pat Rivard and Director of Learning Laurie Wilson, this training will introduce participants to a multidisciplinary team approach to ensuring a co-ordinated response to individuals who may be a risk to themselves or others. The training provides tools for assessing the level of risk and creating a purposeful plan to prevent an escalation of behaviour.
Both Rivard and Wilson are received their VTRA training certification through Kevin Cameron, an internationally recognized leader in threat and risk assessment. Cameron is the executive director of the Canadian Centre for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response.
The training will be attended by a number of Palliser staff but the two-day session is also open to other school divisions and human services agencies. The training is recommended for school staff, including counsellors and administrators, as well as those who work in law enforcement, mental health, probation services and health care in areas of emergency violence and suicide risk assessment.
The cost is $100 per person and includes training materials and meals.
