AHS shares information about pertussis outbreak

Alberta Health Services has declared a pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak in parts of southern Alberta after 17 cases were confirmed this year. Twelve of those cases were report in the week prior to outbreak being declared. 

Pertussis is a highly contagious bacterial infection that causes severe coughing. It can affect any age group, but infants aged one or younger are at greatest risk of serious complications.

Alberta Health Services has provided this helpful information about the symptoms, prevention and treatment of pertussis.
